The balance of daily learning is supplemented with independent and family-supported practice and learning. Students will have required, online sessions occurring at the same time synchronous with their class and teacher each week. All teachers is the district will receive training on our district digital learning platforms and teaching strategies to be able to serve in the blended or EDGE learning options.
Teachers will be using the following curriculum as a resource to help students meet state standards in grade level and content specific areas, while at the same time ensuring we are meeting graduation requirements.
Specific curriculum is listed below with links to their websites. K-5th Grade uses Florida Virtual School. We unfortunately cannot list the classes that will be available until we have an idea of how many students we will have and what their specific class needs are.
Here is a list of courses that MAY be offered. We will have transition points for program changes, rather than having students move between the programs at any time. This will allow for students to become embedded into their programs and establish routines to truly make a decision about their selected model.
Students will not able to participate in elective courses with students at their home school. Our health officials require us to maintain strict cohorts for contact tracing. We know the importance of electives such as band, orchestra and art are for all students. We are currently working on determining how to make opportunities such as these available to our EDGE students and will update you as we develop solutions.
Students in the EDGE program belong to their resident school. They will graduate with their resident school peers and will have their resident school name on their diploma and transcript. Families can choose between the EDGE program and the blended learning model. Attendance in EDGE is required and grades will be issued for all students. EDGE will continue to be an option for students for years so come. Regardless of the pandemic, we know that one learning model does not serve all students and providing options for students to access their education will continue.
Students with IEPs may participate in EDGE though the services and accommodations may look different than they did in a traditional classroom. We will work with families who select EDGE for the school year to determine if revisions to the IEP are necessary to support student success. We will have special education teachers who will be working exclusively in EDGE and supporting students in the EDGE program, specializing in how to meet the needs of students in their caseloads in the online platform.
While we do not offer IB courses for students in grades 11 and 12 due to certification requirements, we do offer Honors courses that students in grades 9 and 10 need to complete to prepare for the IB program.
