Different version means the online room is using a MOD that you dont have. Password protected are League's passwording thier server to keep crashers away. Most people run multiple installations to host varoius Mods, I am not sure if Steam version is possible. I don't know if it makes any difference but I did a clean install of Windows 10 rather than an in-place upgrade from Windows 8 - for a major OS version upgrade I think it's better to do this.
