It plays quickly, but offers a lot of choices. As always, it is beautiful to see all the tiles laid out at the end. I still preder the original for a good strategic game, but this is fun to play with my kids when I want a quick game.
Stephen B Just like Carcassonne this is a tile laying game, but you are bound by the walls of the castle. It is only a 2 person game so it is much quicker then the regular one. It has its own strategic place though and is a good one to have to play with your spouse. The borders of the playing area are fixed, and players build inward towards the center of the castle. This is possibly my favorite Carcassonne and also stands out as the most dissimilar version to other games in the line.
Very fun, fast-paced, and well-balanced. Sansom Enjoyable, quick, but deceptively deep game. It's only two players, so its not the best party game, but for a quick game with me and the misses, it can't be beat!
Andrew This is a great stand alone version of Carc especially designed for 2 players. Strategy becomes important because tile laying space is limited. A new expansion is to be released soon for this game entitled "The Falcon". Definitely a good buy. We are continuing to sell the games we have left. Shopping Cart. The player with the keep that occupies the greatest number of tiles gets a scoring bonus equal to the largest empty space number of squares in the play area. This component becomes critical near the end of the game. If a player suspects he will have the smaller keep, that player may deliberately place tiles to split large empty spaces in the play area. An area with two by seven spaces, for example, gives 14 points to the player with the larger keep.
That same area can be cut by playing two tiles to form two areas of three by two spaces. The bonus for the larger keep would then be reduced to six points, and the bonus scoring gap lessened by eight points. Carcassonne: The Castle is a fine two player game. The rulebook is clear, and the components are good. The game is light enough to be played while enjoying conversation, yet it requires some strategic planning and decisive actions.
The two player limit makes The Castle less flexible than regular Carcassonne, which supports up to five players.
